How to make a Draw String bag without a sewing machine?
bag4498 asked:
I want to make some drawstring bags for my daughters party so that the kids can put their "gold" in them. I will have the kids sifting through sand looking for gold rocks. I don't own a sewing machine but was wondering if I could do this using fabric glue? I could punch out two holes at the top of the bag and feed a ribbon through. Do you think this would work? I've never worked with fabric glue either. I'm not too crafty, but thought this would be cute and inexpensive.

yes, fabric glue works fine. it will hold the folds together.
just remember to follow the instructions - don’t wash, let it dry completely, etc. There are ironing instructions too.
however, for your project, all the above should not matter much as long as you have enough time for the glue to dry.
another technique could be to cut the fabric in a circle & punch along the edge for the ribbon to go through. this will give the bag a different unique shape & you won’t need any glue. however, the amount of fabric required will be more.
also, glue some sequins or glitter, etc. to make it more exciting for the little girls ;-))
all the best & have fun

You can fold a piece of fabric in half (right sides together) so that the fold becomes the bottom of the bag. Glue the two side edges together except for the top inch or so. When the glue is dry turn the bag right side out. Fold over and glue the top edge down to make a tunnel that you can feed the ribbon through. Run a single ribbon all the way around, or run a ribbon through each side and tie the two ribbons together on both ends.
It’s not a durable project, of course, but I’ll bet the memories you create will last a long time!

You can get felt from a local craft store (comes in sheets just like paper), glue two pieces, or fold in half and glue two sides of it together, depending on what size you want. I recommend something like Tacky Glue. Punch holes at the tops, every inch or half inch and put some cording through and knot it together. Felt is easily glued together and it doesn’t fray. You can also buy felt shapes and letters to decorate the bags. The cording/rope you should also be able to find in the craft store, especially if its one that carries material. Another advantage of using the felt is you don’t have to cut out the fabric either.

Sounds like a good idea. You could also hand stitch the sides together with needle and thread.
