Needle off-center - Singer Prelude Sewing Machine. How can I fix it?

I just bought a Singer sewing machine (my first) and I am wanting to sew a straight stitch centered, however the needle (the needle is brand new and straight) is off center to the left about 1/8 of an inch. Can I fix this or do I need to return the machine?

either return it or take it to a repair shop

There may be a button or dial to change the needle position. Check your owner’s manual. If that doesn’t work, take the machine back for a new one.

Look in the manual and see if there is a needle-position adjustment feature. I believe the Prelude has 3 needle positions. If that’s not the problem, then I would call a small store that sells and repairs sewing machines and ask them about it… is it easy to fix, is it a sign of a badly made machine. If they say it’s common and would take a minute to fix, consider taking it in. They might do it for nothing if you buy a package of bobbins or some thread or other things you’re going to need anyway.
There is nothing wrong with returning it, except that it would be inconvenient for you. If you have to ship it for the return, make sure the company pays your shipping.

Read the owner’s manual & find out how to adjust the needle.
