I need a sewing machine that works great and costs less than 50 dollars. Anyone know of any from experience?
dreamclock asked:
I've seen several of them online but I want to know if anyone has had any good experience them. I'm also a beginner. I plan to sew tote bags, pillow cases...etc. Maybe some shirts too. Any advice. Thanks in advance!

I bought a sewing machine at a yard sale that worked just fine, for 5 bucks. Sold it for $400. It was a rare one sought after by quilters. There are plenty of machines out there on the cheap, but you have to go find them.

Wal -Mart sells them, they go on sell after Christmas and I would get a Brothers. The one that is around $79 is a good one for a beginner. You will only need basic stitches for learning. I got this one for my daughter to start out on and it has been a good one for her. Remember to oil it often and it will last you a long time. Happy sewing.

Brother brand is good for sewing anything but denim… Brothers just don’t have the power to get through several layers of denim… You should be able to get a new one at Wal-mart for around $50.00….
If you want to go the second hand route try Deseret Industries or Salvation Army thrift stores.. Singer is always a good brand in second hand…
I have only owned one child sized sewing machine worth anything it was a Singer.. I have had it since I was a child and my daughters have both used it.. I have had to take it in once to have the belts changed due to the rubber falling apart at the same time I also had the repair place clean the machine well since they had to take it apart to change the belts anyway…

Brother, White, or Singer. Wal-Mart has the best prices, I bought my Brother there after my old machine died after 30 years of hard work!
Note: Stay away from the Europro brand.

Since you are a beginner, get a new machine. You’ll need the instructions in order to learn how to use the machine. If you buy a junk machine for $50, that’s what you will get.Try to save enough to purchase one for at least $100. Singer and Brother are reliable, inexpensive ones.If you don’t get a name brand machine, you’ll be taking a chance on what you get.
