Brothers just don't have the power to get through several layers of denim... You should be able to get a new one at Wal-mart for around $50.00.... If you want to go the second hand route try Deseret Industries or Salvation Army thrift stores.. Singer is always a good brand in second hand... I have only owned one child sized sewing machine worth anything it was a Singer.. I have had it since I was a child and my daughters have both used it.. I have had to take it in once to have the belts changed due to the rubber falling apart at the same time I also had the repair place clean the machine well since they had to take it apart to change the belts anyway... The one that is around $79 is a good one for a beginner. You will only need basic stitches for learning. I got this one for my daughter to start out on and it has been a good one for her.
