well you a have a few options, you can buy a pre-made quilt. id reccommend buying a color of the over all theme of the quilt due to the fact some of the background will be showing through over and behind your patches. it looks like the basic layout of a quilt they are very inexpensive and neat to do with younger children but are also great for adults to use if theyre in a need to do a quick job and/or dont have a sewing machine hehe and are durable, however in doing this you can buy the iron-on layouts (or patches) for the quilt patterns also at any local quilt shop and place that over the picture patch you were thinking about sewing onto your quilt and instead iron it on. dont worry about washing they are washable and the picture wont be ruined when washed either. so you can go the iron on route or you can do it by hand the old fashioned way like our great grandmothers usse to. good ol needle and thread itll take some time but the end product is great and so much more rewarding. i also do not have a sewing machine and ive made many a quilt. its a lot of fun also staying away from a sewing machine give you more free range motion and you can do some really neat stitching desings. if this seems too much or too hard its really not. you can buy an idiots guide to quilts or a step by step guide, theyre pretty cheap too.

While the cost of sewing machines can be prohibited there are plenty of companies selling very good quality second hand machines. Check out your local store. They will also be able to advise you of the materials that you require to complete this project. They may also be able to assist with classes on how to complete the project without a sewing machine, as many stores start beginners on quilting, by handpiecing blocks. Surely you completed some sewing classes while at school. An other option for collecting the materials that you require is to check out the local Opportunity Shop/Second Hand Clothing as they often have fabric scraps for sale as well. Also check your local quilt club, as they are only too willing to show you the way that you can achieve your goal. i’m not sure how the pictures would transfer but fleece is a very easy fabric to work with. you could use big squares so you wouldn’t have as much sewing to do and maybe do a decorative blanket stitch with crochet yarn so the stitching would be fast. have fun.
